Levi Lakey and Mary Loviney Stevens on their wedding day September 15, 1889

LEVI LAKEY (son of Simon Lakey and Martha Delisa Miller) was born November 15, 1851 in Douglas County, Missouri, and died June 23, 1933 in OSWEGO, LABETTE CO, KS. He married MARY LOVINEY STEVENS September 15, 1889. She died May 1898.

After Levi's fathers death, Levi took over looking after his mother and the rest of the children. He didn't get any schooling and couldn't write his name. It isn't known just when the family moved but eventually they moved to western Missouri near Pittsburg, Kansas. The boys all worked in and around the coal mines in Litchfield, Kansas and Rich Hill, Missouri.
